Ok, despite my witty and eloquent title, I stumbled upon a post on Gizmodo about a tour of the LEGO’s Vault of Secrets. Ok.. maybe its not so much of a secret, but it is where they house almost every Lego set created, in pristine condition.
Check out the video, and the post commentary. Yes, its a bit geeky, but… well, chick dig geeks… so deal with it.
This is possibly the best video ever on YouTube… And everyone must agree because it has 28,702,606 views. You just can’t plan this kind of thing… believe me, if I could, I would have taped my kids doing something like that..
I spotted this article over on the lifehack.org about how to start your day. I have to admit that I don’t follow any of these tips, but they certainly seem like a good idea. How to raise the odds that it’s going to be a fantastic day. Who would have thought that grabbing a pop-tart on the way out the door, probably wasn’t the best way to start the day?
On a side note… my digital scale broke over the weekend (no, not from excess weight) because I think the battery might be going dead. I am choosing to see this as a positive thing… now I won’t be obsessing about the pound or two fluctuations in my weight.
I’m all about penny-pinching… unfortunately, I’m also a slacker who rarely looks at his finances to see where he could scrimp or save. For example, it is quite possible that I could save a ton of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico, but I’ve been with the same insurance company for 20 years, and am just too big of a slacker to switch. Same with my web-hosting and various other services that I pay for on a monthly basis. I’ve found that I’d rather pay an extra $10 here and there, just so I don’t have to fill out any paperwork. Imagine all the money I could save if I just sat down and figured out where I could scrimp or save some money.
I found this article recently at Cashbulge.com that gives 13 Creative & Simple Ways to Save at Least $100 a Week. I happen to do a number of these things already, including saving my change, taking the train, and not having a home-phone line.
What would you do if you had an extra $100 a week?
I’ve known this for awhile, but recently got back into listening to audiobooks while driving to work. My first ever audiobook was A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. I was commuting from my home in Alexandria, VA to Laurel, MD (a 45 minute journey each way) and thought it would be great to do something productive while basically just paying attention to the road. Ok, this story is so cool, I just had to blog about it. Back in 1992, a Chinese cargo freighter got caught in a storm, and accidentally dropped a container of about 29,000 rubber ducks into the Pacific ocean. From that point on, oceanographers have been tracking these rubber ducks as they travel around.
About 19,000 make it to Australia and South America, and the rest get caught up in the Arctic and are frozen in ice. Travelling at about a mile a day, these rubber duckys are now being spotted 15 years later near Great Britain and are expected to start making landfall in the coming months.
I’m not exactly sure why I find this story extremely interesting. Perhaps its the fact that researchers have been able to learn something based on an accident… or that it has to do with thousands of rubber ducks floating around in the world’s oceans.
