“You should be feeling 100% better…” Yes, thats what my doctor said today. If you’ve been following my continuing health saga like my parents have (hi mom and dad), you would know that my doctor is not one for pleasant banter. When I first went to visit my doctor, I received a pretty bad tongue lashing. But after getting put on the right medicine, my doctor has been singing a different tune.
Today, we went over the progress I’ve made since that first visit.
When I first went in, my thyroid level was non-existant. My blood pressure was way up, along with my weight and cholesterol. Today, my weight was down 19 pounds from then (I’m at 237 with heavy clothes on). My thyroid level is bordering on the upper range of normal and my blood pressure is down to 130/76. But the biggest change was in my cholesteral. My original level was close to 370 with my fats at around 360. Today, my cholesteral was at 164 and my fats were at 208!
While this has been a huge change, I still have to take medicine to keep me on track, albeit at a lower level. The doc reduced all my meds to half the dosage, with the hope of getting rid of the cholesteral and blood pressure meds completely.
He asked me what I’ve cut out of my diet, and to be truly honest, I haven’t really made that many changes to my diet. I have reduced my portion sizes a bit, and have cut out most of the big calorie items in my diet like donuts and soda. I’ve also replaced most of my pasta and bread with whole wheat versions. I also haven’t had a beer in probably 2 months.
My goal is to continue with the weight loss, which should continue having a positive effect on my other vitals. I’d also like to start exercising more. But who am I kidding? I know darn well that I won’t pick my butt up off the couch to do that… so I’ll hope that I can keep myself from stuffing my face with chips and cookies.
We will see how it goes next month when I go back.
