Audiobooks rule…

I’ve known this for awhile, but recently got back into listening to audiobooks while driving to work. My first ever audiobook was A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. I was commuting from my home in Alexandria, VA to Laurel, MD (a 45 minute journey each way) and thought it would be great to do something productive while basically just paying attention to the road.

Audiobooks was my answer. It got a bit expensive after awhile, because audiobooks tend to be much more expensive than regular paperbacks, and well, I’m a cheap bastard, and stopped listening to them.

But recently, I went to see the latest Harry Potter film, and realized that I haven’t read any of the books, but really wanted to. Problem is finding time to do it. So… Yes… the answer is Harry Potter Audiobooks. I have this huge block of time while driving, might as well be productive while I do it. We’ve (my son and I) have already gone through Book 1, and are working our way through Book 2. They are great.. Not just the writing, but the narrator is excellent. English accent and all.

What I’ve found is that while the drive time is still the same, it seems to fade away as I listen to the literature being read to me. While I’d love to still be able to sit and read the actual books, I know in my heart that I’ll never have the time to devote toward reading a whole book…
