Rubber Ducky, your the One!

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Ok, this story is so cool, I just had to blog about it. Back in 1992, a Chinese cargo freighter got caught in a storm, and accidentally dropped a container of about 29,000 rubber ducks into the Pacific ocean. From that point on, oceanographers have been tracking these rubber ducks as they travel around.

About 19,000 make it to Australia and South America, and the rest get caught up in the Arctic and are frozen in ice. Travelling at about a mile a day, these rubber duckys are now being spotted 15 years later near Great Britain and are expected to start making landfall in the coming months.

Check out the Daily Mail article entitled “Thousands of rubber ducks to land on British shores after 15 year journey” on the subject.

I’m not exactly sure why I find this story extremely interesting. Perhaps its the fact that researchers have been able to learn something based on an accident… or that it has to do with thousands of rubber ducks floating around in the world’s oceans.

Either way, its quite cool.
