Half a submarine…

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Lunch was a half of a sub sandwich from Publix. If any of you have not had a sub made from Publix, you don’t know what you are missing… really… you don’t. It doesn’t taste nearly as well as a Quiznos or Subway sub, but… its convienient for me. Its only a stone’s throw from my office, and is usually enough to satiate the hunger during the day. I don’t really know what makes it different from Subway, its all the same ingredients… it just tastes different.

After work, I warmed up my Snapper from the other day, and ate that for dinner. Snack was a couple of spoonfuls of ice cream and peanut butter.

I’m down a few pounds from over the weekend… hopefully I can continue to make up ground on the other guys in my office this week. I expect to only lose 2-3 lbs. but judging from what the other guys are saying about their diets, I may still have a chance, since most of them splurged over the weekend.

Friday is weigh-in… so we’ll see.

Pretty relaxed weekend…

Not much happening this weekend. I’ve been trying to pack up my apartment, since I’ll be moving to a bigger place starting February 1st. I went to my neighborhood bar and got a Snapper Francaise with mash potatoes and vegetables… with a glass of water. I only ate about half of the portion, and took the rest home..

I also walked about a mile and a half this afternoon, and will be going to get a haircut later on today. I’ll probably come home and eat the rest of my Snapper from yesterday… or I may make something different and save the Snapper for lunch tomorrow… yeah, I’m crazy like that. :)

This week’s weigh in..

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Well, I was right. As soon as we all got in yesterday, everyone was put up on the scale. I weighed in at the same weight I started with last week. Its kind of discouraging to some extent, but I know that I ate less/better, and did some exercise… so I’m hoping it was just a little bit of muscle weight that I gained… but who knows.

Last night, I went to a friends house for dinner, and she made spagetti. I tried to limit my portion to the size of my head (yeah, I like spagetti).. Along with ice cream and a very wicked chocolate cake, I’m afraid I will have to starve myself this whole weekend to make up for all the calories I took in. Bright side was that I only drank one glass of Merlot, and had water the rest of the time.

Kind of discouraged today…

Weather might have something to do with it, but my sunny warm Florida turned bitter and cold today. Overcast and rainy most of the day, and down in the 60s… Yeah, I’m sure all those people under a few inches of snow are thinking, “What a cry-baby”… but heck, I didn’t move to south Florida to be cold. I could have done that up North.

Anyway.. lunch was a small side salad with fat-free ranch dressing and a chicken noodle soup. Dinner was a chicken breast with corn and ramen noodles. With a little pack of carrots as a snack. No exercise today… too cold and too bleak for me.

Weight loss still has eluded me. Perhaps its the beer and wings from last night, but I’m about at the same weight as when I started. Weigh-in is tomorrow at work, and I fear I’ll be the same weight, despite all the reduced portions and exercise. Oh well… Maybe next week.

A page from the Jarred Diet…

Yes… I had Subway today for lunch. I looked up some stuff on the internet about which fast food restaurants had the lowest caloried foods, and it seems that Subway had a couple of items (like the 6-inch Turkey breast sandwich) that was less than 300 calories. So I walked a few blocks to the local Subway, and got a Turkey sandwich and a chicken noodle soup (like 90 calories) for lunch. Not only did I get some exercise in, but also got a lo-cal meal that lasted until dinner.

At dinner though, I went to the Steak place next door to my office with some people, where they were having $1 beer and 25 cent wings. I limited my beer intake to just one, and had about 10 wings. I also ate a garden house salad with a vinegrette dressing and a side order of green beans. Although it seems healthy, I imagine there are probably hidden calorie items that I didn’t see, like cheese on the salad or something like that.

OH.. and today, I found this article on LifeHack.org: How to Lose 50 pounds in Three Months. It pretty much describes my entire diet philosophy… Good show Kyle, thanks for the tips.

Wings and Beer… without the beer.

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Yesterday, we took my good friend out to Hooters for his birthday. Ordinarily, we’ll order a pitcher of beer, get a batch of 50 wings (wet and nekkid) and chow down. But being that we’re having this “biggest loser” weight-loss competition at the office, I chose to just have about 10 wings and a glass of water. I also ate a few celery stocks.. It was good, and I didn’t feel guilty about it.

Then last night, I went out and played basketball with some folks from work. I guess “played” is a bit of an overstatement… I just ran around trying to play basketball.. :) I then went home, had a couple of pieces of wheat bread with a tablespoon of peanut butter on them.

After all that, I still had a bit of energy, so I walked 1.5 miles afterward.

Yeah, I can’t imagine that I’d keep this up, but I felt like doing it, so I did. Good for me.

I just felt like walking…

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Hmm.. Monday… can’t really tell what the heck I was thinking, but after work today, I started off for a walk. I was wearing skate shoes, and after about 1/2 a mile, my shins where killing me. I mean, like, “OMG, how am I going to get home” kind of killing me. I ended up toughing it out for another mile, and made it home. I was going to change my shoes, but realized that I had tossed my old worn out shoes, and was in terrible need of another pair.

So I took off to “Famous Footwear” where I (yeah, I know this is original) bought the exact same pair of New Balance sneakers that I had before… Putting them on was like a breath of fresh air. My shins no longer ached, and if anyone ever says that shoes don’t matter… I’ll kick them in the head.

I also picked up a nice pair of Nike Basketball shoes..

When I got home, I decided to try my new sneaks out, so I walked another mile and a half. Then I got to talking to my brother on the telephone, and decided, heck, why not walk another mile and a half.

So I ended up walking about 5 miles in total. Some in pain, but most not. Thats got to count for something right?

Lunch was a chicken salad from “The Original Steakhouse” with a Diet Coke… Dinner was a couple of spoonfulls of peanut butter and some microwavable corn. (ok.. I know its not a great dinner, but heck, I just walked 5 miles.. I’m not about to cook something “sensible”)

Very nice weekend…

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Friday night, I stayed at home and attempted to catch up on all the t.v. shows that I have missed after this busy week. Apparently, there is a finite number of television shows you can store on a Digital Video Recorder, and I was dangerously low on hard drive space. Luckily I had the time to veg out on the couch and watch.

Saturday, I decided to experiment with some food ideas that I had. I was originally going to try and cook some talapia with a butter-crust, but instead of talapia, I used chicken breast instead. So I ground up some ritz crackers, added some Adobo seasoning, with chili pepper and a touch of seasoning salt. I then coated a chicken breast in the mixture, and saute’d the whole thing with some olive oil. To finish the meal, I added some brown rice and some sugar snap peas. Personally, I enjoyed the meal very much. It also seems healthy, but who really knows.

Sunday, a friend of mine invited me to take a ride on his boat. Well, not one to pass up a nice boat ride down the Intracoastal Waterway, we took a trip to downtown Fort Lauderdale, and had lunch at a place called, “Ugly Tuna’s.” As you can imagine, this place is known for its tuna. So I had a nice tuna steak, with rice and brocholi.

We then went to meet up with my future landlord, where we commenced to drink a couple of beers, and talk about RVs and such. Nice time. I went home and used up the rest of my ritz cracker crust, and made another chicken breast, this time, adding it to a bowl of “field greens” with some light ranch dressing. Snack was baby carrots.

Overall, I enjoyed the weekend alot. I got to meet some good people, eat some good food, and experience some good times. You really can’t get any better than that.
